In free fall…

It started with a dear friend sending me a sax cover of this truly timeless classic that traces it’s origin to 18th century. The girl with the sax was outstanding. The song was Can’t help falling in love with you..

“Can’t Help Falling in Love” is a song recorded by Elvis Presley for the album Blue Hawaii (1961).

It was written by Hugo Geretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss and published by Gladys Music, Inc.

The melody is based on “Plaisir d’amour”, a popular French love song composed in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini. The song was initially written from the perspective of a woman as “Can’t Help Falling in Love with Him”, which explains the first and third line ending on “in” and “sin” rather than words rhyming with “you”. One of the most covered songs, it is a great reminder of the King’s unbelievable seductive voice. https://youtu.be/vGJTaP6anOU

… Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I can’t help falling in love with you
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin
If I can’t help falling in love with you?

… Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be

… Take my hand
Take my whole life too
For I can’t help falling in love with you

… Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be

… Take my hand
Take my whole life too
For I can’t help falling in love with you
For I can’t help falling in love with you

An amazingly soulful song, sung in a slow cadence in keeping with the tenor and the emotions. It has been covered by many singers and bands, the latest ones that became very popular was by UB40 in the 90s and one by Andrea Bocelli, in the first decade of the millennium. I love the latter a tad more. https://youtu.be/SPizIaBPhSg

UB40 has put a little different slant on it, and are good too. https://youtu.be/vUdloUqZa7w

Just a personal choice, but Bocelli becomes one with that song in the Las Vegas live rendition.

Stay safe, folks. Stay happy and healthy. Do watch Kashmir Files , a story of a cruel, cynical G E N O C I D E that was allowed to happen.

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” – George Santayana, The Life of Reason, 1905.

I happened to take interest in English numbers in the nineties with my new very good friend circle of MBA time. Like my girls are fond of Geeta Dutt songs, when even their parents were not born. It goes that way, sir. Thanks for responding!!

Sweet memories👌😊
