Missing you tonight…

The song of the day couldn’t be shared earlier today as I was in an area without a mobile network. Sounds like I was stuck in a time warp. I mean where on the planet can such a place actually exist in today’s era???

But there was one such corner and I was totally out of touch with the world. I just returned to what passes for civilization and like any creature of habit, am down to posting this one. https://youtu.be/ii8D7gNn318

A superb Sachindev Burmanda melody from a superhit team of Subodh Mukherjee, Nasir Hussain, Dev saab and Burman da after Munimji that had been made by the 4 just 2 years before this one. Filmistan the studio in Goregaon West was the producer responsible for both, (Sashadhar Mukherjee) . The earlier movie had Nalini Jaywant, here they had Nutan. The lyrics are by Majrooh . The plot is utterly predictable now, but I loved the movie for the lead pair, which was an extremely successful one, and unfortunately had too short a run together, but boy-o-boy what a run they had!! Just 4 movies together, 3 hits, one not so much of a hit, 2 absolutely unforgettable: Paying Guest (57), Baarish (57), Manzil (60) & Tere Ghar Ke Saamne (63) which was actually shot after her son Mohnish’s birth!!

This is a wonderful composition by the genius Burmanda who could conjure a classical music based tune as easily as a folk tune, based on say Bhatiali… He could bridge the entire spectrum with immense felicity and ease, a unique ability. His compositions are always very melodious and he could always get the best out of every singer, from Lata to Rafisaab to Kishoreda.

This song is based on Shuddha Kalyan, which is an Audav-Sampoorna raag, it has the notes of Bhoopali in the aaroha, and those of Yaman in the avaroha. A wonderful, very melodious raag that’s usually performed in the first prahar of the night, that’s between 6 and 9 pm. Like now..
