The garden lizard stood still on the lamppost as I passed by, fixing me in its baleful stare. It’s immobility and being rooted to the spot was intriguing. It seemed to be sizing me up and the threat I brought with me. I passed by the spot nearly 20 minutes later and sure enough, it was very much there in exactly the same pose.
