John Lennon Lullabies Pure joy

His last hurrah

The first one of a legendary band who was killed by a crazed fan for no other reason but that he could acquire a gun in a country which makes it easier to possess weapons than buy a cholesterol lowering drug and despite 50,000 firearms deaths every year including 4 Presidents (one near fatality in Ronald Reagan), and worse still, defends their “constitutional rightto kill one other, women and children included, was John Lennon.

John Lennon was a genius songwriter and singer who started and contributed so much to the legendary band that started life as a clubhopping group that called themselves The Quarrymen, then with time and change of personnel evolved into The Beatles, and is one of the most recognized faces on earth.

This song is from the album he published with his Japanese Wife, Yoko Ono, called Double Fantasy. Released in 1980, it was  the last album he published before his death. The album has one of the top three Lennon songs I love, Woman, (the third being the eternal ballad of all optimists around the world, Imagine). “Beautiful Boy”  also is the stated most favourite Lennon song for both Paul McCartney who included it in his Desert Island Discs Selection and for Yoko Ono as well, who included it in a 2007 album. It includes one of my favourite Lennon quotes: “Life is what happens to you,
While you’re busy making other plans

John Lennon sang this lullaby for his second son, Sean. A really lovely combination of great feelings, lyrics, composition and singing that makes this song truly an immortal, eternal classic. Sadly, Sean was only 5 when Chapman senselessly killed his father whose sentiments expressed in this song could thus never be realized. https://youtu.be/1BZkYfqa4Fs

Close your eyes
Have no fear
The monster’s gone
He’s on the run
And your daddy’s here

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy

Before you go to sleep
Say a little prayer
Every day, in every way
It’s getting better and better

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy

Out on the ocean, sailing away
I can hardly wait
To see you come of age
But I guess we’ll both just have to be patient

Cause it’s a long way to go
A hard row to hoe
Yes, it’s a long way to go
But in the meantime

Before you cross the street
Take my hand
Life is what happens to you
While you’re busy making other plans

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy

Before you go to sleep
Say a little prayer
Every day, in every way
It’s getting better and better

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy

Darling, darling, darling
Darling Sean
Good night, Sean
See you in the morning
Bright and early

Amazing that the song popped up into my head when I was shooting a Black Drongo. But that’s the way the human mind works, I guess.

Stay safe, folks, enjoy the Sunday. The rainclouds gather in the Southern seas and will surely visit us soon.
