This is about one of the ladies that has made countless men (me included) fall in love with her voice without ever having seen or met her
The days of my residency in my Alma Mater were some of the best in my memory. Our institution equipped us with all the tools to help us evolve, from the overawed teenagers that we were when we entered the imposing portals of the college through the imposing 25 feet high main door, into knowledgeable physicians in the area of our choosing and also be able to express ourselves in other areas. As a result almost all my friends had at least one more area of interest that had been well evolved. When I got the room on the top floor in the (then) New RMO Quarters on becoming a Registrar, I shared the floor with some of the brightest minds in our institution, most of them from either my class or just one year ahead of us. One such guy was Sriram Iyer. He was an excellent communicator and was very cool and calm in stressful situations. He would frequently return from the wards, and just after entering his room would flick on some cassette or the other. It was thanks to him that I got introduced to this divine singer. And this is the very first song that I’ve heard from the artiste.
The song is a duet between a gifted singer and a legendary songwriter/singer. The latter is one of the trio of brothers who started the band when the oldest was not even 9!
Listen to this energetic duet: https://youtu.be/Phh9B1-4EYs
The song lends its title to the album as well. I actually love the Barbra Streisand– Barry Gibb duet version more than the Bee Gees solo version. The depth of emotion that Barbra brings into the song is lacking in the latter. She is one of the very few artistes to get all 4 of the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) , such is her oeuvre.
Guilty
H-a-a-a-a
Shadows falling baby we stand alone
Out on the street anybody you meet got a heartache of their own
(It oughta be illegal)
Make it look a crime to be lonely or sad
(It oughta be illegal)
You got a reason for livin’
You battle on with the love you’re livin’ on
You gotta be mine… we take it away
It’s gotta be night and day just a matter of time
And we got nothing to be guilty of
Our love will climb any mountain near or far we are
And we never let it end…
We are devotion
And we got nothing to be sorry for
Our love is one in a million
Eyes can see that we… got a highway to the sky…
I don’t wanna hear your goodbye
A-a-a-h
Ooh… woo… ooh…
Pulse’s racing darling how grand we are
Little by little we meet in the middle there’s danger in the dark
(It oughta be illegal)
Make it a crime to be out in the cold
(It oughta be illegal)
You got a reason for livin’
You battle on with the love you’re buildin’ on
You gotta be mine we take it away
It’s gotta be night and day just a matter of time
And we got nothing to be guilty of
Our love will climb any mountain near or far we are
And we never let it end
We are devotion
And we got nothing to be sorry for
Our love is one in a million
E-y-e-s eyes can see
That we (that we) that we got a highway to the sky
I don’t wanna hear your goodbye
Don’t wanna hear your goodbye
I don’t wanna hear your
And we got nothing and we got nothing to be guilty of
Our love (our love) will climb any mountain near or far near or far we are we are
And we never let it end
Oh… we never
We are devotion
And we got nothing to be sorry for
Our love (our love) is one in a million
E-y-e-s eyes can see
That we (that we) that we got a highway to the sky
We got a highway
We got highway ay-ay…
Don’t wanna hear your
And we got nothing to be guilty of guilty of
Our love (our love) will climb any mountain
Near or far, oh
We are
That we
And we never let it end
Here is the Bee Gees version minus Barbra. The very soul, the life force (Barbra) is missing, despite the hugely talented Bee Gees. As is usual, the credits are given to all three of the Gibb brothers. https://youtu.be/mXktkzDwA14
Don’t you agree there is something missing?
Have a great day ahead, folks. Take care in the summer, which is all over us at the moment

Two singers with different styles..
For this song, Barbara Streisand is unmatchable.. most of her songs have Feelings !! Emotions..a Soul.
Remember her in the movie Hello Dolly with Louis Armstrong himself singing the prime number.
Bee Gees , according to us, from our times, had completely different style, which stood up high in their own space..
